Postdoc Application and request for information (Hod Lipson)
Postdoc positions in my lab are always available, and there are typically 2-3 resident postdocs doing research in robotics, AI, evolutionary computation or fabrication. The topic is usually driven by the postdoc, and the period is around 2 years, To apply, please include a copy of your CV with links to selected papers.
Financial support. I usually do not have funding for a full-time postdoc position, though I am able to complement support that a postdoc is able to secure through fellowships and/or scholarships. Make sure you have applied to any sources of scholarships available to you, and mention that in your application.
Are you interested in this research area? Choosing a Postdoc research direction is a big commitment as it is a key factor determining your chances of getting a faculty position. Do AI, artificial life, evolutionary robotics and design automation fascinate you? To get an idea of the questions this field deals with, have a look at some popular books like Kevin Kelly's Out of Control (you can read it online or get the book). If you want to know more technical details, check out Melanie Mitchel's Genetic Algorithms or Nolfi and Floreano's Evolutionary Robotics, or Chris Adami's Artificial Life. If any of these books get you excited, you have made the first step.
Thank you for your interest, and best of luck!
